Code of Conduct

Survivor Community Code of Conduct

We are an inclusive and welcoming social/support group for survivors of the “Troubled Teen” Industry. We’re glad you’re here!

This Code of Conduct covers all Survivors Unrestrained engagement including Zoom calls, in-person events, and social media.

Intentions and Expectations

  • We want to be a safe-enough, healthy-enough, trauma-informed space for survivors to connect, learn, grow, and heal together.
  • We value diversity and inclusion. Survivors of all races, ethnicities, national origins, religions, genders, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, ages, disabilities, neurotypes, and other protected and marginalized identities are welcome here.
  • We strive to be kind and respectful, and to honor each person’s lived experience.
    • No minimizing or invalidating.
    • No hate speech, harassment, attacks, violence, threats, or discrimination based on identity or protected status.
    • Be mindful of unsolicited advice.
    • Be mindful of the intensity and detail of potentially sensitive or traumatic content and its impact on others in the group.
  • We value agency: we are free to participate actively or passively; skip, leave, or rejoin a meeting; step away if we need to; and request a pause on a topic at any time.
  • We support survivors, not the programs.
  • We share airtime and support group conversation.
  • We respect privacy and confidentiality: we do not record, photograph, or screenshot group spaces; we do not share another person’s story, identity, or what they share outside the group without their permission; and we are mindful of who may be able to overhear or see our calls.
  • We address conflict and harm in a timely manner and support accountability and repair where possible.

If you have a concern during a Zoom call, hosts have “(Host)” in their Zoom name. You are welcome to private message them at any time.

While we are not a therapy group or able to provide crisis support, we have a member available for individual support. Please reach out to any Host for more information.

If Harm Occurs

It is important to be clear about how we protect group health and safety in the event of hate speech, harassment, attacks, violence, or threats. The response will depend on the nature, severity, and pattern of the behavior. These steps are not necessarily sequential, and serious safety concerns may require immediate limits or removal.

  1. Redirection: Unproductive debate or conversations that are significantly disrupting the group may be redirected by a Host.
  2. Private Conversation: When a member’s actions raise a concern about harm or a violation of the Code of Conduct, a Host may have a private conversation or use a breakout room to discuss what happened and what is needed going forward.
  3. Temporary Limits: When needed to protect the safety and health of the group or its members, a member may be muted or temporarily removed from group spaces or Zoom calls while the concern is addressed.
    • If a member is temporarily removed, we will communicate about what happened, the action(s) we took, and a defined path for restoration based on accountability, skills, and repair.
  4. Ban: In rare and extreme cases, a member may be banned from all SU engagement, including Zoom calls, social media groups, and in-person events, when their behavior poses a serious risk to the safety or wellbeing of another member or the community, or when harmful behavior continues despite previous interventions.
